Celebrity Vegans – Part 3

And my final installment of celebrity vegans. Here’s a few actors left over from the last blog plus a hodgepodge of others: Casey Affleck – Ben Affleck’s younger brother is also an animal rights activist who decided to go vegan. Woody Harrelson – How could anyone as green as Harrelson not be a vegan? He committed to the diet at the fairly young age of 24. He credits it with providing him with more energy and glowing skin. Ted Danson – Harrelson’s co-star on “Cheers,” Danson, an environmentalist, just recently became a vegan in an attempt to naturally lower his … Continue reading

Celebrity Vegans – Part 2

Sometimes it seems as if all Hollywood has turned vegan, either for health issues, animal rights issues, or both. Here are more famous vegans: Actors and Actresses Portia De Rossi – De Rossi became a vegetarian after moving to a farm with wife Ellen DeGeneres. Alec Baldwin – He’s outspoken about many things, but Baldwin lets people know that his vegan diet is a choice due to his love of animals and the environment as well as his personal health. Olivia Wilde – Not only is Wilde a vegan, she has her own vegan website (Wilde Things). Sandra Oh – … Continue reading

Celebrity Vegans – Part 1

I have a confession to make – I am a meat lover. I know I need to eat more veggies and fruits, but I honestly don’t ever think I could go totally vegetarian. I love a good steak and burger every once in a while. I am curious about the vegan diet. Obviously if I couldn’t go straight vegetarian, I really couldn’t go straight vegan (give up cheese – gasp!). But, I eat at a local restaurant that serves vegan items and one day, I promise myself I am going to try it. However, there are many celebs who are … Continue reading

Lance Armstrong Comes Clean to Doping

The other night, I was in bed, looking for something to watch on television.  I know, I know, experts say you shouldn’t have a television in your bedroom, but I find it comforting to watch a little before I go to bed. I was channel surfing when I came across the Lance Armstrong interview on OWN.  I didn’t realize this was the first airing and I am not a huge cycling fan, but something compelled me to watch. It has already been leaked to the media that Armstrong would confess to using performance-enhancing drugs to Oprah, but I wanted to … Continue reading

Green Athletes

I have blogged about green celebrities, green musicians, and green models, but there are also plenty of green athletes in the world. First, since the London Olympics are still fresh on everyone’s mind, let’s take a look at a few green Olympians. No doubt you heard the name Usain Bolt a few million times during the London Olympics. Okay, maybe not quite that much, but the self-proclaimed Fastest Man of Earth’s name was certainly mentioned a lot. Bolt took home gold in the 100 m, 200 m, and 2×100 m relay. But, he also serves at the ambassador of culture/sport … Continue reading

What is a Freegan?

I know what a vegetarian is and I know what a vegan is. I’ve heard of the minimalistic movement and even subscribe to the 100 Things Challenge on Facebook (not that it does me much good). But, until I was watching the 10th season of “Project Runaway” the other day, I had never heard of a freegan. Contestant Fabio Costa (who is originally from Brazil, but now lives in Brooklyn, New York) told another designer that he was a freegan. He explained to that designer that he gets his meals from dumpsters, to which everyone in the room went “Ew!” … Continue reading
