Missing Haiti Relief Money

One thing about Americans is they will give during a time of need. For the 9/11 tragedy, the Haiti earthquake, the Japanese tsunami – even in this era of hard economic times, Americans still are able to give to help others. The downside is we often forget a tragedy once the next one hits. After the devastating Haiti earthquake of 2010, many celebrities offered their time and money to help. One, hip hop star Wyclef Jean, took it a bit further and even tried to run for president of his native country. His request was declined because he had not … Continue reading

Celebs on the Gulf Coast Oil Spill

Celebrities are often the first ones to speak up and act after a disaster. Remember gun wielding Sean Penn rescuing people in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina? How about Wyclef Jean raising money after the Haiti earthquake? But, they don’t seem quite as vocal about the Gulf Coast oil disaster. So far, there are no telethons, although God love him, Kevin Costner thinks he has a solution with his oil-separation technology, which, last I heard, BP is still investigating. Director James Cameron met with scientists and officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He hoped some technology used in The … Continue reading

Updates on Haiti Relief

Simon Cowell has stepped up to help the victims of the devastating Haiti earthquake. Although time is running out for rescue efforts, help is still needed in aiding the survivors and rebuilding. Cowell is going to do what he does best – make a record. He has chosen to re-release REM’s single “Everybody Hurts.” REM’s manager, Bertis Downs, has said the band will waive all royalty rights for the song and that the band is touched Cowell chose their song. Reportedly appearing on the single will be Paul McCartney, Susan Boyle, Elton John, Coldplay, Take That, Robbie Williams, N-Dubz, Leona … Continue reading

Socially Conscious Kids Raise Money for Haiti

I don’t know how many of our readers are in or near Baltimore, but I thought this was such a touching news story that I would share it with everyone. As part of a private Catholic school, the students at St. Agnes School in Catonsville, MD have to wear a uniform to school every day. Every so often, they have a special “dress down” fundraiser where the students can pay $1 to wear regular clothes. However, for this January 15th’s dress down day, the students were told the monies would be going to Haiti relief and they didn’t have a … Continue reading

Star-Studded Celebrity Benefits for Haiti

If there is one thing celebrities love to turn out for it is benefit events. Last Monday on his nightly show, Larry King hosted a two-hour special that raised almost $9 million for Haiti relief. On the show helping man the phones were such celebs as Paula Abdul, Jennifer Lopez, Mick Jagger, Ringo Starr, Ben Stiller, Will.I.Am, P. Diddy, Ashley Judd, Snoop Dog, Ryan Seacrest, Scarlette Johansson, John Mayer, Nicole Richie, and Joel Madden. There was also an auction of celebrity items. Believe it or not, Jared Leto paid $1,000 for a pair of Larry King’s famous suspenders. If that … Continue reading

Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti Charity Under Attack

Many people don’t mind making charitable contributions, but they may wonder exactly how much of their contribution is going to the actual charity. Currently, there are numerous Haiti relief organizations. In addition to traditional charities such as the Red Cross, others that are specifically for Haiti relief have gotten media attention. One such charity is musician Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti foundation. Jean, a Haitian native, established Yele Haiti in 2005. Let’s face it – even before this devastating earthquake, Haiti needed a lot of help. Yele Haiti has provided scholarships for the children of Haiti, food to residents after hurricanes, … Continue reading

More Updates on Relief for Haiti

More people and organizations have responded to the need in Haiti after a devastating 7.0 earthquake hit the island nation last Tuesday. The Red Cross has made it easier than ever to donate. You can give $10 towards the relief efforts by simply texting HAITI to 90999 and the donation will be charged to your phone bill. Since the campaign began, over one million people have donated $10 – bringing the total to over $10 million. Three planeloads of supplies were diverted to the Dominican Republic earlier today, but a caravan of seven trucks set out for Port-au-Prince and should … Continue reading

Celebs Offer Haiti Relief

Mary Ann and I have blogged about social consciousness as a part of green living and following the horrific 7.0 earthquake in Haiti, several celebrities are stepping up to help. Definitely putting their money where their mouths are (or in this case, their hearts) is Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. While I would expect Brad and Angelina to donate – they definitely have a history of being an altruistic couple – I was very happy to read that they donated $1 million dollars to Doctors Without Borders. This team of medical professionals has dispatched staff, including surgeons, to Haiti to … Continue reading

Aniston Gets Engaged and Pitt Gets Married?

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston divorced nearly seven years ago and yet their names are still often tied together in the tabloids. This seems especially true lately. If you believe what you read, Brad and fiancée Angelina Jolie are always trying to rain on Aniston’s parade as far as the headlines go. Pitt and Jolie announced their engagement in April after seven years and six children together. At the time, I think the tabloids were accusing Pitt and Jolie of ruining Aniston’s possible wedding plans by upstaging her. Now, it may be Aniston that upstaging Pitt and Jolie. Rumors were … Continue reading

Brad vs. Jen – Six Years Later

Brad Pitt just can’t seem to keep quiet about his former marriage to Jennifer Aniston. It makes no sense to me, since he was the one that left the relationship. Why doesn’t he just let it die? For whatever reason, every so often he feels the need to talk about it, which is exactly what he did to Parade magazine recently. Pitt said, “I spent the ’90s trying to hide out, trying to duck the full celebrity cacophony. I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic.” That must … Continue reading
