Who is Jane Goodall

Every Sunday in church, the children get a handout that makes them think about how to become better, more caring people. Today’s handout listed four individuals that parents were to tell their children about. There was the Dalai Lama, Caesar Chavez, Rosa Parks, and Jane Goodall. World Humanitarian Day

Today was World Humanitarian Day. August 19th was designated as World Humanitarian Day by the United Nations (U.N.). It is a day to remember humanitarians all over the world who have lost their lives while working for humanitarian causes. Think of it as Memorial Day for humanitarians. Why August 19th? Because it was on August 19, 2003 when U.N. Special Representative in Iraq Sergio Vieira de Mello from Brazil and twenty-one others were killed in the bombing of the U.N. Headquarters in Baghdad. Danny Glover Among Sodexo Protesters Arrested

Actor Danny Glover and 11 other people were arrested Friday when protesting Sodexo, a French based food service company with U.S. headquarters in Maryland. The protesters, which included both Americans and French workers, were there because they feel that the company has been treating their workers unfairly. Glover and the others were arrested when they stepped past the yellow police tape. Montgomery Country police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks said that the protesters were asked three times to step back from the company headquarters, but were arrested after refusing.
