Electric Motorcycles

We have talked about electric cars on here, but did you know there are also electric motorcycles? They are a great, green way for people who love the freedom and excitement of motorcycles to travel.

There are many misconceptions about electric motorcycles. Some people may fear the battery of the electric motorcycle won't get them where they want to go, but that isn't true either. While you can't set out on a long road trip, you may be able to go up to 75 miles without charging the battery. Statistics show that the daily commute for the average American is 10 miles and that hasn't changed much in the last 20 years.

Still, some people may fear that their battery run out of electricity. If the battery dies, what do you do? All you need is access to an electrical outlet. Most homes, stores, and gas stations have electricity, so that shouldn't be a huge problem. If all else fails, do what you do when your car breaks down - call AAA or a friend.

Some people may think that electric motorcycle will not go very fast, but that is not true. Well, I guess it depends on exactly how fast you want to go, but there are electric motorcycles that will definitely take you to the top of the speed limit by going 60 mph. The Electra Cruiser can even go faster than 80 mph. If you are talented enough and can build your own electric motorcycle, you can determine how fast it goes.

For those with a real need for speed, Mission Motors makes an electric motorcycle that recently set the Land Speed record for electric motorcycles in Utah by going 150.059 mph. That was a production prototype that isn't available right now, but should be available for purchase next year. The only bad part if you will need to have $70,000 to get that particular electric motorcycle.
