George Clooney is Related to Abraham Lincoln

It’s pretty amazing what genealogists from Ancestry.com can dig up. It seems like they are always finding connections in the family trees of unexpected people. This time, they found that actor George Clooney and former President Abraham Lincoln are related to each other. Ancestry.com is one of the biggest genealogy websites. The site is frequently updated with new records and archives. They have a blog that updates at least once a week. They produce one or two live webinars every week. Somehow, the genealogists who work for Ancestry.com still find the time to dig up unexpected connections in the family … Continue reading

George Clooney – Humanitarian

Really George Clooney? You are already extremely talented (having an Oscar to attest to that), incredibly good looking (having left behind him a string of beauties and he is currently dating statuesque WWE Diva Stacy Keibler), and now continues to be unbelievable giving. If he wasn’t so lovable and charming, we would surely all hate him. This time, Clooney has auctioned off his beloved 2008 Tesla “Signature 100” Roaster for charity. He said the car, with only 1,825 miles, was a joy to drive, but he loves something else even more – helping make the world a better place. Clooney’s … Continue reading

Baldwin Joins PETA Boycott Plea and Clooney Arrested

This week saw two high-profile activist actors in the news. Alec Baldwin decided to join PETA in the organization’s plea for Americans to boycott circuses, such as Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey, which uses elephants in their acts. If you’ve read any of my previous PETA blogs, you know Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey have previously come under attack before for its alleged mistreatment of elephants. This dates all the way back to 2009 when PETA conducted undercover, multi-state investigations on animal handlers. The owners of the circus, Feld Entertainment, paid $270,000 last year for being in violation … Continue reading

George Clooney—–Peace Keeper

He has been called many a name in his lifetime (most of the negative ones came courtesy of Fabio), but George Clooney says “peace keeper” is not one he is referred to very often. However, if the shoe fits… The handsome actor is back in the headlines again today after donating $5.6 million to help the United Nations peacekeeping force in war-torn Sudan buy a fleet of helicopters. How’s that for digging deep? Clooney, who was recently named a U.N. Messenger of Peace, has been one of the most outspoken celebrity advocates for the victims in the impoverished Darfur region. … Continue reading

Pop Culture Potpourri: Actor’s Dogs are Not Killers and Clooney’s Latest Award

Ving Rhames’ dogs didn’t kill anyone. Or so claims a new report that was compiled after an exhaustive five-month investigation. According to the Los Angeles Department of Coroner, 40-year-old Jacob Adams, the man who was found dead on the front lawn of the actor’s L.A. home back in August was not mauled to death by Rhames’ dogs as police first reported. Rather, the coroner found that Adams “died because of a preexisting heart problem.” As for the dog bites found on him the coroner determined they were “non-fatal.” Rhames was out of the country filming a movie when his friend … Continue reading

Emmy’s Big Winners

Did you watch the Emmys last night? I tuned in and was glad I did. I loved Jimmy Fallon as host. His opening “Born to Run” routine with the kids from “Glee” was hilarious. And the fact that they bypassed Kate Gosselin twice for the musical number? Too funny! It was a big night for one of my favorite comedies “Modern Family.” The show took home Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Eric Stonestreet as Cameron Tucker), Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd), and Outstanding Comedy Series. While “Glee” was shot down … Continue reading

Mia Farrow Fasts for Darfur

Actress/activist Mia Farrow has long been a supporter of children’s rights and has especially been concerned about the welfare of those in Africa. She works as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and has traveled to war torn Darfur three times since 2004. To help spread the word of the crisis going on there, Farrow has had photographs published in PEOPLE magazine and she has written editorials for the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times. She feels so passionately about this cause that in August 2007, she offered to give up her freedom in exchange for that of Suleiman Jamous, a … Continue reading

Matt Damon Visits Zimbabwe Refugees

Actor Matt Damon is in South Africa to film a movie about Nelson Mandela, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Morgan Freeman as Mandela. While there, he decided to visit the Zimbabwe border town of Musina to help raise awareness of the suffering going on in that country and of those that have fled it. (This image is in the public domain because it contains materials that originally came from the United States Central Intelligence Agency’s World Factbook.) Damon visited a Zimbabwean refugee camp and talked to some of the people there. He heard stories of the sexual violence occurring … Continue reading

Star Offers Up Freedom To Help Rebel Leader

While other stars use cold hard cash to send political messages one Hollywood heavyweight is using her freedom. Mia Farrow just announced that she offered to give up her rights as a citizen of the United States to ensure an ailing Darfur rebel leader receives safe passage out of a local hospital. The offer was put into writing in a letter the actress sent to Sudan’s president and posted on her website. According to Farrow, the rebel leader, Suleiman Jamous, has been a key link between Darfur rebels and aid workers in the war-torn Sudanese region. The 62-year-old actress says … Continue reading

Hollywood Do-Gooders Donating To Darfur

Sometimes I wonder how many people would know what or where Darfur was if it wasn’t for George Clooney. The handsome actor certainly has devoted a ton of his time turning the spotlight on the impoverished people who live in the region of Sudan. Both Libby and I have documented Clooney’s ongoing work to bring humanitarian efforts to the region and it seems as though the “ER” star’s work is paying off. According to Clooney, his “Ocean’s Thirteen” co-stars recently donated a huge chunk of change to humanitarian efforts in Darfur. Clooney along with his “Ocean’s” pals, Brad Pitt, Matt … Continue reading
