Green Burial – Eternal Reefs

As I said before, I never know where blog ideas are going to come from. I wrote a series on green burials after listening to a “Coast to Coast” episode. After I posted my first green burial blog, I received a comment from George Frankel of Eternal Reefs. Well, I had thought I was finished with the green burial series until I saw this comment. I had never heard of Eternal Reefs, so I had to check out their web page. Eternal Reefs offers families a cremation memorial that is eco-friendly. Unlike most traditional cremations, Eternal Reefs encourage the family … Continue reading

Green Burial – Part 3

Thanks to those of you that are still with me on this sometimes unpleasant subject of burials. As I said in yesterday’s blog, I originally intended for this to only be two blogs, but there is just so much information out there, I felt compelled to write a third segment. Dr. Billy Campbell, who opened the first modern green cemetery in 1996 (Memorial Ecosystems in Westminster, SC), is also another pioneer in the green burial movement. Tyler Cassity, who took a bankrupt cemetery in Hollywood and … Continue reading

Green Burials – Part 1

I just never know where my next blog topic is going to come from. Today, I was listening to an achieved episode of the radio show “Coast to Coast” and they were talking to journalist Tom Jokinen. Jokinen went undercover as an apprentice at a mortuary in order to write his book “Curtains: Adventures of an Undertaking-in-Training.” Okay, all this may sound a bit morbid (actually, it was very interesting), but a topic was brought up that I never thought about – green burial. There are many reasons someone might want a green burial. First of all, there is the … Continue reading
