We are about two hours east of Raleigh, NC, so I was please when I learned what Builders of Hope was doing for residents there. They are a non-profit group that saves home from demolition, moves them to a new area, makes them greener, and then prices them so that lower-income families can purchase them. If you are in Phoenix, Arizona between November 11 and 13, consider yourself lucky! The annual Greenbuild International Conference and Expo is going to be there too! What is Greenbuild? It is the largest conference devoted to green building. It will feature prominent speakers such as Daniel Wildcat. Daniel, a Native American is the director of the Haskell Environmental Research Studies Center at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. Modular (pre-fabricated) homes have often suffered a bad reputation, but now, some of them are on the cutting edge of green living. Based just upon how they are built, modular homes may be a more efficient, green way to go anyhow. I have blogged about purchasing locally grown produce, but being a farmer today can be hard. So hard in fact that Will Tuttle is planning to pack it in. Tuttle is the owner of the 134 acre farm in Dover, New Hampshire that is the longest family-run farm in the country.
