Neighborhood Sharing Programs

Have you ever watched a ‘50s or ‘60s television show and been amazed that the neighbors know each other so well? It seems like today, we know the people that live right beside us less and less. And I am one of the guilty. There are a few people in our neighborhood that we are friendly with, but there are still others that I wave at, but I don’t know their names. So wouldn’t it be great if there was a green way to get to know your neighbors? I am going to tell you of such a way. Think … Continue reading

Being a Good Neighbor

Having good neighbors can be a source of great blessing and make living in your home more enjoyable. Having bad neighbors can completely color the experience. What can you do to be a good neighbor? Firstly, you need to establish a relationship with your neighbor. Don’t interrogate them and ask them too many questions, especially personal questions. Being nosy is not conducive to good relationships between neighbors. You want to keep it friendly but without going overboard. You don’t have to become new best friends, always in each other’s houses but a short conversation out the front or over the … Continue reading

National Good Neighbor Day – September 28th

Not long ago, I blogged about how some neighborhoods are starting their own sharing programs. If your neighborhood doesn’t have one, tomorrow might be a good time to talk about starting one because September 28th is National Good Neighbor Day. Knowing your neighbors can be fun and rewarding, especially if you need something in a pinch. National Good Neighbor Day was the brainchild of Mrs. Becky Mattson. Becky and her husband Dick … Continue reading

Would You Share Your Garden?

I’m a great advocate of yard sharing. In the suburban neighborhood where I live, most houses have large yards. Most of these yards are covered in grass and a few selected shrubs, annuals, and the occasional tree. In the spring and summer, people go out and dedicatedly mow this grass, remove the clippings, and fertilize what is left. It seems to be a form of madness to me, but then again I have always been more partial to moss and vegetables than to lawns. Our family lives in a townhouse. Our townhouse has the typical postage-stamp sized garden. On the … Continue reading

The NET worth of a sexual predator.

Sexual predators defraud where ever and when ever they can. Like trolls prettied up as princes, they permeate every part of society and pick their targets from where ever they can access them: including the internet. They know no class or gender bounds; they instead pick anyone who falls for their fraudulent and cowardly manipulation. Their net casts over us all, yes, even those members on families.com. Be careful, be warned, be vigilant of whom you share personal information with. I have already had a dubious contact through families.com. It was dealt with, the person banned immediately, and there has … Continue reading
