Organic Flowers for Fall

When we think of organic, it is usually related to food or maybe even in home goods. We like to buy organic produce, organic chicken and even organic sheets and clothing. But one area that we tend to forget about when it comes to organic is flowers.

Fall is a wonderful time of year to decorate your home and outdoor living space with flowers. There is an almost endless bounty and variety of flowers for Autumn. Why not take advantage of what nature has to offer, but do so responsibly?

Organic flowers are both harder and easier to find than you might think. Think about where you might go to find organic flowers for decorating. Chances are that there aren't too many resources that come right off of the top of your head. But did you know that many florists already carry organic flowers? They may not advertise or label these flowers as organic, but that doesn't mean that they aren't available. You can first check with your local florist or nursery.

Next, check out your local green stand, co-op or farmer's market. Chances are pretty good that you will find organic flowers and plants for fall at one of these places. Often, other decorations such as corn husks and hay bales can also be gotten in organic form. Just ask. And if your local stand doesn't carry such items, the chances are pretty good that the farmer may just know someone close by who does.

Do you have a botanic garden near by? Ask there if they know where organic flowers can be purchased. I found out that not only did our local botanical garden have a list of local growers, but they also green their own organic flowers and would be willing to sell some to me.

Finally, if ou can't find organic flowers locally (and local is best), there is always the Internet. Many companies specialize in organic bouquets and can offer delivery.
